September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and this Thursday is World Suicide Prevention Day.
An important reminder that safety includes our mental and emotional well-being. Safety in the utility and construction industries goes beyond PPE, equipment inspections, and jobsite procedures—it also includes mental health. Long hours, demanding schedules, time away from home, and the pressure to “push through” can take a serious toll. Construction workers face an elevated risk of suicide, making it especially important to recognize when a coworker may be struggling.
During National Suicide Prevention Month, take time to check in with your crew and listen without judgment. Even during the toughest projects and darkest moments, hope and support are available.
