Weekly Point of Safety | Treat UTVs like work vehicles
Even a short ride across a right-of-way still needs a safety plan. Survey, SUE, utility, and land crews may use ATVs and UTVs on remote ground where slopes, soft soil, weather, and added equipment can change how a vehicle handles.
Before the vehicle moves:
*Buckle up in a UTV.
*Check the route, terrain, and weather.
*Carry passengers only in designated seats.
*Tell someone where you’re going and set a check-in time.
*Avoid traveling alone when possible.
NIOSH reports that agriculture accounts for 60% of occupational ATV deaths and warns that attachments can increase tip-over risk. That statistic applies to agriculture, but the precautions matter wherever field crews use these vehicles.
Familiar equipment still deserves a deliberate safety check.
