Weekly Point of Safety: Bow Season Awareness
Georgia’s archery season opened Saturday, which means increased hunting activity near wooded areas, rural properties, and utility rights-of-way—especially around dawn and dusk.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, 12 of the 23 reported hunting incidents during the 2024–2025 season involved tree stands, accounting for more than half of all incidents. While these statistics relate to hunters, they are an important reminder that everyone working near active hunting areas must remain alert.
When working on the right-of-way:
• Always wear your required high-visibility safety vest.
• Stay alert for hunters, vehicles, tree stands, blinds, and other signs of activity.
• Be especially cautious during early-morning and late-afternoon hours.
• Know your work location and communicate your presence with your crew.
• Never assume you can be seen—make visibility and awareness a priority.
